It is dealing with anything
and it is dealing
when there is no dealing
yet to deal

I have been dealt
and I have dealt
and I deal
and I deal

My father is a magician
and has practiced his art
for many years
he deals everyday,
even if it is to himself

and my father tells me,
“A man who can work with his hands,
will never starve,”

and my father asks me,
“Don’t you think that’s right?”

and I reply,
“I don’t know.
Those people probably still starve.”

And he gives me that look of uncertainty,
that look of dissatisfaction,

that same look I saw from my parents for so long
for longer than I should have,
but it was all my fault
and it was none of theirs,
I was just dealt the wrong hand
