Nicholas Widener is a photographer and educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. His photographs explore how people shape landscapes and how those landscapes preserve the traces of their presence long after they have gone. Working primarily across the American South and West, he is drawn to roads, schools, athletic fields, churches, coastlines, and small towns as places where memory, history, and everyday life quietly accumulate.
His projects often develop over many years and move between documentation and contemplation. Whether photographing distance runners, forgotten roads, coastal communities, or institutional spaces, Widener is interested in how photographs reveal the quiet evidence of human presence.
